So i wrap this yr with my last piece. I started this a while back but finalized it and put it together last night. One of my favorite verses. I used the same flowers i used in the house warming gift, but tried different leaves. I loved the effect of scrolled leaves. Here it is.

New Flower bouquet
So this month i created another quilled flower design - more or less like a bouquet as i had a 3D effect for the flowers by using shaping domes. That makes the flowers really pop out instead of lay flat. The effect is definitely better.
I went for my orange again. But used a double graduating quilling strip. Basically what that means is that it strip starts as white - becomes orange in the middle and then is white again at the end.
Like so
Now with paper - i followed this tutorial - purple flower with a small change in the shape.
This is what i got
The full picture is as follows :)
So to illustrate that flower i created a photo tutorial - not sure if its clear enough...that's one skill i need to improve on. However you will get a basic idea by going over the purple flower tutorial and this one below.
I love the way the flowers with the graduated orange paper turned out...reminds me of Fanta :)

Birthday gift for a friend
So here i go again - i did a quilled yellowhammer bird based off Jane Jenkins English birds.
It came out really nice. I painted a sky blue for the background on a canvas and framed it in a 8 x 8 shadowbox frame.
Here is the final piece. And my friend loved it :)

Quilled piece on mottled Canvas
So i thought a plain piece of canvas in white would not make an effective back ground. So i went googling the "mottled effect" painting method. I tried that out and got a very nice background - atleast i think so :) The background is actually with green, yellow and gold tones. So i then added some quilled flowers. I followed Pritesh Dagurs tutorial
http://youtu.be/qiLk9wmIMSY which was based off http://azlina-lin.blogspot.com/2012/01/multicoloured-flowers.html for one of the main pieces. I like the effect :)
I have finally figured out that quilled swirls are best with card stock paper - they are easier to shape.
