Quilled piece on mottled Canvas

So i thought a plain piece of  canvas in white would not make an effective back ground. So i went googling the "mottled effect" painting method. I tried that out and got a very nice background - atleast i think so :)  The background is actually with green, yellow and gold tones. So i then added some quilled flowers. I followed Pritesh Dagurs tutorial

I have finally figured out that quilled swirls are best with card stock paper - they are easier to shape.

Royal Flower modified

So i have a new wall plaque i am doing. The theme needs to tie into the gold, orange, brown shades. I have the verse all picked out to emboss on the frame. Started with the flowers. This is the modified version of the Royal flower which i saw on Amna's tutorials

Footprints Plaque redone....

And so i made a few changes to my Footprints Plaque. Added a different color plus put in the feet.

A design from Beautiful quilling step by step.

So one of my first projects was trying to figure out how much of paper i would require to make shapes that would fit the designs i wanted to do.
And after watching so many tutorials and blogs - i realised i would have to manufacture these sizes myself. Hence i got my self the book - Beautiful Quilling step by step.
One of the designs caught my eye because of the fine detail in the butterfly. I then went ahead and got some wooden plaques from Walmart. Painted it with beige, and then quilled the same picture with the same dimensions. Once i completed it - i felt it was missing something since it looked really sparce.
I came across some bell flowers on Pinterest - and tried those. They were perfect. And this is what i came up with. Few things i learnt.1. Always keep a wet paper towel to wipe your hand clear of glue. 2.End product should be varnished to give it stability. So i went ahead and got Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic coating aerosol spray. It worked perfectly!

Another item i made which i love. A Wall Plaque with "Foot Prints in the Sand" embossed on it. I then added quilled flowers.

Quilling Basics. Step by step tutorials

Quilling is a new found passion for me. I was taken aback by the detailed beauty of filigree work. And was pleasantly surprised that this was with not too much effort. So now here i am expanding on my Quilling horizons - dabbling with quilled art on plaques, fridge magnets, cards, freestanding - u imagine it - u can make it.
The initial journey to find out more about this technique, after seeing it at a friends house..started me on a youtube hunt for information.
After many books and video's, i realized there was a lot out there on techniques - but very few that take you through the entire course of creating a master piece. Step by step.
Hence i thought of doing QuillingMadeEasy with complete steps for each completed project i post. Given the fact that these pieces take a lot of time, depending on what you want to create - i hope to show the basic creation of shapes and all the materials required for this - and then leave the assembling of the final product to you. But you will have visuals of the finished product to guide you.

Quilled Monarch butterfly fridge magnet

My inspiration for this butterfly was from Daydreams monarch butterfly. I found the butterfly base in wood from walmart - and this is how it started.

1. Wooden base. Quilled the pieces and arranged them to see how they look. I also put a strip around the butterfly as a border to keep the pieces in.

 2. I painted the base black with acrylic paint for wood

 3. I then stuck all the pieces. And made the body of the butterfly by making 2 cones and attaching them together to make a long body. The color didn't look right

 4. So i painted the body bronze.

 These are other versions of the butterfly. Modified and in different colors.

As pieces progressed - i added beehive quilling in between to fill the spaces as well.
